Hi, community!

As a promoted fansite, TibiaQA.com is allowed to interview CipSoft employees. We are now getting ready for a fifth interview with a CipSoft employee. Who, in your opinion, should we interview next? What questions should we ask?

A full list of employees available for an interview is here: www.tibia.com/abouttibia/?subtopic=aboutcipsoft

We have already held four interviews:

Interview with Bolfrim - the lead tester at CipSoft

Interview with Benjamin Zuckerer - managing director at CipSoft

Interview with Laethye - Game Content Designer of Tibia

Interview with Solkrin - lead of the Customer Support team at CipSoft

Ulairi - Marketing

Are/have you ever been an active player prior to working for CipSoft? How did you learn about Tibia?

What are the main sources of new players? Paid marketing, organic marketing?

What has been the most successful marketing campaign for Tibia so far?

Most current Tibians are unfamiliar with marketing efforts of the game and few have seen an advert in the wild. Can you tell us about how the team is marketing the game?

How have you seen the marketing strategy of Tibia change over the long history of the game?

What are the primary demographics the game focuses on marketing to?

Does the marketing change based on region, is it all English language marketing?

Has there been a significant rise in effectiveness of the returning player campaign with the addition of Monk Vocation?

The webpage and client login screen art styles have always seemed very discordant with the art style within the game, has this been an intentional marketing choice or purely aesthetic?

Newhaven is now the third iteration of a starter island we have seen. Is this new starter zone in response to feedback from newly recruited players or existing players?

Does the ever increasing level spread make it difficult to retain new players recruited by their friends?

What are some of the other current barriers to the retention of newly registered players?

What are some plans to help address those barriers?

One of my favourite things Tibia, as well as other games, is PvP content. Tibia hasn't  changed much about it's PvP system since Update 10.0 in 2013, even many problematic bugs were never patched and instead labeled "features". Do you feel the lack of new PvP content has led to a difficulty recruiting players interested in other popular game styles like FPS and MOBA?

Any plans to bring back the old Tibia webshop for physical merch?

After almost 13 years of working for CipSoft, what is the one thing about Tibia and its community that continues to amaze you?

As much as I second the idea that knightmare should also be interviewed (I heard that he didn't work in cip anymore, is that true?) I also think that it would be interesting to interview one of the programmers from the team:

- Berotus, for example; A perspective from the inside regarding how the updates and changes are implemented on the programming side, would be interesting i guess

Thanks for your answer. Any other questions you would ask? Also, Knightmare still works at Cipsoft according to here- https://www.tibia.com/abouttibia/?subtopic=aboutcipsoft

I would love to see an interview with a programmer and maybe get some more technical questions, there's not been many of those and it's very relevant with the introduction of the monk and recent lag issues.

What parts of the codebase are still fundamentally shaped by Tibia's original design?
How do you approach scalability with thousands of concurrent players? (This is very relevant to the recent lag-issues).
What are the biggest risks when modifying old systems that players rely on daily?
Are there parts of the code that nobody wants to touch, and why?
What forms of technical debt are most common in a game as old as Tibia?
What programming languages and technologies are most central to Tibia today?
What was the most technically challenging in adding a new vocation to the game?
Anything that was technically harder than expected with the monk introduction?
What are the hardest kind of bugs to fix in a MMO environment?
How much freedom do programmers have to propose technical improvements or refactors?
What's the threshold for saying "this must be rewritten" instead of patched?
What's something about Tibia's codebase that surprised you when you first joined CipSoft?
What's the oldest piece of code still in active use?
Is it harder to change old code or convince people it should change?
What system has been rewritten the most times?
Is there a feature players assume is simple that is actually a technical nightmare?
If Tibia were started from scratch today, what would you do differently technically?
In modern C++ game development, are paradigms like ECS, data-oriented design, and reactive systems adopted selectively, or are there cases where they're intentionally avoided?
How much modern C++ (e.g. C++17/20 features) is used versus older styles?
How often do players find edge cases developers never anticipated?
Do you design systems assuming worst-case player behavior?
How do bots and macros influence technical design?
How do you preserve knowledge about old systems? Are there systems only one or two people fully understand?

Maybe not just an interview but make a tribute to some of the good old players that are no longer with us ❤️‍

Thanks Keiras. Please also ask all questions on TibiaQa.com not meta as they dont count for the contest. I noticed you asked multiple questions on meta but I had to hide them. Follow the rules to enter here: https://meta.tibiaqa.com/3218/winter-lottery-2025-with-omniscient-owl
