If the question is locked why do the votes still get applied?

I accidentally posted a duplicate question (after searching for it and not seeing it multiple times) So I received down votes because of this....

I was wondering why the votes still count against you when they lock the question? Is there anyway to hide the question? It's an honest mistake an was unintentional and I don't think it should deserve to be treated as if it was an open question. Only open questions should receive votes as they are open for discussion - This isn't open for discussion.

(Please see below for the proof as I am logged in on my account and it won't let me hide my posts that are locked and I got the votes after I got locked)

It passes sometimes until the question/answer you did and deleted/hided/got closed is totaly eliminate. Until then, you can still get Up/downvotes and they are reflected on your points.

When the question/answer dissapear, you Will have the points you had before you did it.

This is correct and my goal for the next days is to write it down somewhere in our guides as it's causing a lot of confusion. Questions locked as a duplicate are never deleted from the system though. We find them valuable because there may be multiple ways to ask for the same thing.

Of course, downvoting a question just because it's a duplicate shouldn't ever take place. We have ways of handling this - flags and closing as a duplicate.

Finally, you should be able to hide any of your posts, no matter if it's locked or not. Are you not seeing that option at that post (the icon looks like a lightbulb which may also be unfortunate)

No I do not have the icon on both of the questions that were locked. I think maybe the voting should be disabled once a post gets locked at least if this is the case as I got the downvotes after the fact. I will post images of them not being able to be hidden only my comment is able to be hidden. Is there anyway the can hide the posts for me if I can't hide them myself?

It usually takes from a few hours to a few days until the hidden post is reviewed and ultimately deleted and that's also when all the votes are removed. They have now been processed :)
