Ever since the introduction of this tag (which was caused by abolishing the rule that forbids opinion-based questions) we run into troubles with this tag. Questions that weren't supposed to be marked as opinion-based often were marked, and questions that are completely opinion-based weren't. It also doesn't seem like this tag may add much value to our users. I'm currently strongly considering just removing this tag, but I'd like to hear from you about a few matters first.

Removing the opinion-based tag would in no way mean that we now allow any questions to be asked on TibiaQA. We would still want to avoid the preference-like questions, e.g. "What is your favorite X?" or "What do you think of a deco in my house?".

Some questions to you:

  1. Has the opinion-based tag ever been useful to you?
  2. How do we clearly communicate which questions are OK and which not?
  3. Do you support the removal of the opinion-based tag?

Has the opinion-based tag ever been useful to you?

Yes, some examples of useful opinion based questions.

How do we clearly communicate which questions are OK and which not?

For me questions that are nice to have are questions that will lead to new knowledge. Hidden places, hunts, etc. Questions that are too personal such as "what is the most beautiful helmet?" doesn't bring anything new.

I'm open to discussions but they need to be based on numbers or knowledge. I'm totally against simple and easy to search questions (even the one that are not opinion based). I also dislike questions based on not implemented features / content. This shouldn't be a place for proposals.

Do you support the removal of the opinion-based tag?

I don't support the removal of the tag as we can have good questions. U

I'm not sure if you understood the question correctly. I'm asking whether we should remove the opinion-based TAG, not the opinion-based questions.

I'm sorry. I did understood removing opinion based questions.
The title is about tags but the introduction and the second bullet point leaded me to think about questions. Now I'm confused about what do you really want to discuss about.
Tags are just a way of classification. What is the impact of allowing the tag or not?

It's not really about allowing them or not. It's about enforcing them. Currently, the opinion-based tag is a requirement on questions we classify as opinion-based.

  1. Has the opinion-based tag ever been useful to you? Yes it has because it's always good to know when there's a chance for no facts but rather opinion or personal preference.
  2. How do we clearly communicate which questions are OK and which not? I think you could always flag a post or comment and let us know what's acceptable or not. When I was new I didn't really know much so maybe if you could highlight the rules section or maybe add a reminder of what question would be good somewhere where we can all visibily see when asking a question then we'll constantly be reminded?
  3. Do you support the removal of the opinion-based tag? I love the tag it's okay to keep it around because it's not hurting anything and then we can be clear when looking at facts or opinions.
